It depends on the height, length, colour and number of gates, but as a general guide a fully installed COLORBOND® steel fence in Melbourne typically costs around $180–$260 per metre. NKSM is a supply yard — we sell the materials (sheets, posts, rails, caps and gates), so by picking up from Hallam and installing it yourself or using your own fencer you avoid the labour, which is usually the largest part of that cost. Send us your measurements and we'll give you an exact materials price.

A standard COLORBOND® steel fence is made up of the sheets (the infill), posts set into the ground at roughly 2.4m centres, top and bottom rails, and post caps. On sloping ground or for a neater finish you might add a plinth along the bottom, plus a matching gate. Bring or send your measurements and we'll put together a complete materials list.

We're a supply yard — we provide the materials for your fencing and steel projects, ready for pickup from our Hallam store. Most of our customers are homeowners installing it themselves, or tradies and fencers buying for their jobs. If you need an installer, we're happy to point you in the right direction.

Measure the total length of the boundary in metres and decide on a height (1.8m is standard for backyards). As a rule of thumb you'll need a post about every 2.4m, plus rails and sheets to suit. Send us those two numbers and we'll work out exactly how many sheets, posts and rails your job needs.

Most of our range is in stock, so the majority of orders are ready for same-day pickup from our Hallam yard. For large or custom quantities, give us a call to confirm availability — and we can cut steel to size onsite.
